“Generally, there is increased medical and dental awareness among the public in Kuwait. The relatively high living standards and the modern equipments are instrumental in delivering effective treatment in Kuwait.”- says, Dr. Bairava Sundaram who is working as an Orthodontist at Amiri Dental Center.
Sundaram was born in Avudayapuram village near Virudhunagar. His father, Mr.Subramaniam started his career as a clerk in the Revenue service and retired as a tahsildar. He came to Madurai and settled there in order to provide better education to his children.
Sundaram completed his Pre-university from American college school and graduated as a dental surgeon from Madras Medical College in 1975. Then, he worked in Dr. Chitrambalam dental hospital in Trichy. Later, he completed his Masters in Dental Surgery from Madras Medical College and worked as a Senior Lecturer in Annamalai University for 1 year.

After 5 years of private practice in Madurai, Sundaram came to Kuwait in 1992 and has been working in Amiri Dental Center ever since.
He is a simple, jovial and friendly person. He is one among the few senior people in this field in Kuwait. His valuable words of advice which arises out of his experience in Kuwait and his readiness to help in times of need make him to be regarded as a “godfather” by many junior dentists.
A patient attitude and a tolerant approach towards patients are essential to meet the pressing demands in this field. Success in this field solely depends on the co-operation of the patients. The importance and necessity of treatment should be explained to the patients in a way which is simple and easy to understand and also to elicit the co-operation required out of them.
“Rising from humble roots to this stage was not easy. I had to face several challenges each day. Hardwork, sincerity, dedication and discipline in work and constant reading for update knowledge are essential for success.”

His wife, Mrs.Sundari is working as a mathematics teacher in Carmel school. “She has clear vision and has been a triggering factor in my life” says Sundaram proudly.
The couple is blessed with 2 daughters. The elder daughter, Dr.B.Devi Priya, an Oral pathologist is working in Kuwait University. She is married to Dr. Biju Mahadev, an orthodontist working for the Ministry of Health, Kuwait.
The younger daughter, Ms.B.S.M.Priya is currently pursuing her M.B.A in Chennai.
“Never forget your duty to your motherland. Though we live miles beyond, each of us have much to accomplish, in one way or the other, to fulfill our commitment to our country.” – such are his words which continue to inspire the young generation.
Sundaram, who has served in free dental camps in India, plans to render free dental service to the financially-oppressed back home after his retirement in Kuwait.
